Monstera leaves are droopy and floppy – House Plant Journal

Monstera leaves are droopy and floppy

Plant: Monstera deliciosa

How long have you had the plant? 1 to 6 months.

Plant Parent

The leaves are droopy.  Even the new ones have unfurled by they are very droopy.  This all started about 2 weeks ago.

The overall plant:

Light Situation

From this spot, the plant only receives indirect light. No direct sun.

How do you determine WHEN to water?
I wait for the soil to become about halfway dry.

Describe HOW you water:
I fully soak the soil and let the excess water drain away.

What fertilizer have you been using?
Purived house plant food

Substrate:

Darryl

Thanks for providing your photos and care details.

Light: I hope those blinds are open most of the time.  The average strength of indirect light should be in the 200-400 FC range, which is only possible right up in front of a very large, unobstructed window (but if you want to be sure, you need to measure).

Watering: the WHEN and HOW you water sound good to me.

Expectations: The droopy-ness of your leaves does not look concerning to me.  The overall plant looks fine.  The newest leaf will always be floppy but as it develops over the next few weeks, it will become more firm.

If you want to develop stronger fundamentals in plant care, my books and online course will guide you in the right direction – instead of worrying about every little thing.
